What Does a Electrical Engineer (Utility-Scale) Responsible For?

  • Develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and electrical design packages
  • Specify transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective devices for utility applications
  • Coordinate electrical design with civil, structural, and controls disciplines
  • Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs
  • Conduct site inspections and construction administration support

Electrical Engineer (Utility-Scale) Qualifications & Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Experience designing electrical systems at utility voltages (69kV and above)
  • Proficiency in ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or CYME for power system studies
  • Knowledge of NESC, IEEE C57, IEEE 80, and applicable IEC standards
  • AutoCAD and MicroStation electrical drawing experience
  • Understanding of substation, generation, and T&D project types
  • 4-10 years of utility-scale electrical engineering experience
  • PE license preferred or EIT pursuing licensure

  • Cross-disciplinary coordination with civil, structural, and controls engineers
  • Technical documentation precision for utility-quality deliverables

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program
