  • Support FERC interconnection filings and market studies (capacity, energy, ancillary services)

  • Prepare technical reports, NERC compliance documentation, and regulatory filings
  • Develop and maintain power system models using PSS/E, PowerWorld, or PSCAD

Power Systems Engineer Qualifications & Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in PSS/E (Siemens), PowerWorld, PSCAD, or DigSILENT PowerFactory
  • Experience with NERC reliability standards (FAC-001, FAC-002, TPL-001 through TPL-007, MOD series)
  • Knowledge of FERC Order 2003, 2023, and interconnection queue processes
  • Electromagnetic transient (EMT) modeling experience a strong plus
  • Understanding of energy market structures (PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, SPP, NYISO)
  • 5-12 years of power systems analysis experience
  • PE license preferred

  • Exceptional analytical modeling and simulation skills
  • Ability to interpret complex study results and communicate findings to non-engineers
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration with protection, planning, and operations teams
  • Strong technical writing for regulatory-quality study reports

Education & Certifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree in Power Systems preferred

Certifications:

PE license preferred; NERC certifications a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • +Experience with high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and FACTS device modeling
  • +Familiarity with synthetic inertia, grid-forming inverters, and inverter-based resource (IBR) modeling
  • +Experience working with RTOs/ISOs (PJM, MISO, CAISO) or their member utilities
  • +Knowledge of geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) studies
