What Does a Gas & Pipeline Engineer Responsible For?
- Design and analyze natural gas transmission and distribution pipeline systems
- Perform hydraulic modeling and gas flow analysis using SYNERGI, TGNET, or similar tools
- Develop pipeline routing studies, alignment sheets, and pipeline design packages
- Design compressor stations, metering and regulation (M&R) stations, and pig launcher/receiver facilities
- Perform integrity management assessments: ILI analysis, MAOP validation, and class location reviews
- Ensure compliance with 49 CFR Part 192 (gas transmission and distribution) and Part 193 (LNG)
- Support FERC Section 7 certificate applications and PHMSA compliance filings
- Coordinate permitting with state pipeline safety offices, DOT, Army Corps, and environmental agencies
Gas & Pipeline Engineer Qualifications & Requirements
Technical Skills
- •Pipeline design experience (high-pressure transmission and/or distribution systems)
- •Hydraulic modeling software: SYNERGI Gas, TGNET, SPS (Stoner Pipeline Simulator)
- •Knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192, ASME B31.8, and DOT/PHMSA regulations
- •Pipeline integrity management: ILI, direct assessment (ECDA, ICDA), MAOP reconfirmation
- •Familiarity with FERC pipeline project development and PHMSA enforcement landscape
- •4-10 years of gas utility or midstream pipeline engineering experience
- •PE license preferred

- •Cross-disciplinary coordination with civil, environmental, and right-of-way teams
- •Regulatory communication with PHMSA, FERC, and state pipeline safety offices

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
Certifications:

- +Experience with hydrogen pipeline design and hydrogen blending programs
- +LNG facility design experience (DOT Part 193, NFPA 59A)
